If you are on a limited research budget you may be able to access this data at your local reference library.

All Industry CD-ROMs

You can also purchase a CD-ROM covering all industries.  The financial ratios and balance sheet information can be exported from the CD-ROM in a variety of formats including PDF, Lotus, EXCEL and text.  The CD-ROM also enables users to compare their firm's performance to that of their industry.

Can I View a Sample?

There are two types of profiles.  The first covers small businesses (less than $5 million in revenue) while the second covers medium sized businesses ($5 million to $25 million in revenue)

Due to concerns about data quality or company confidentiality, Statistics Canada has suppressed data in some profiles.  Profiles with severe data suppression have been discounted to $50.00.

How old is the data? 

Financial Ratios cover the years 2004 to 2006

This data was released April 15, 2008.  It will be updated in April 2009.

How soon will I get my Financial Performance Indicators?

Download links to the profiles you order will be e-mailed to you immediately. 

Some e-mail servers are updated less frequently than others.  Please allow fifteen minutes for delivery.

Financial Performance Indicators for Canadian Business is an authoritative reference source of key financial ratios for many industries in Canada.  It is based on Statistics Canada's Financial and Taxation Statistics for Enterprises.  For more information on data sources and methods see the Statistics Canada web site: Survey 2510

What is the definition of a small business and medium business?

In Financial Performance Indicators a small business is defined as one with revenue between $30,000 and $5 million.

A medium business has revenues between $5 million and $25 million.

Each profile includes exactly the same variables as in the sample profiles.

I cannot find my industry.

Financial Performance Indicators is organized by the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) (2002 edition).  You can keyword search the official industry definition of this classification system at the Statistics Canada web site.  For more information on NAICS see our Research Guide. 

Our order forms are organized by Sector and NAICS number and alphabetically by industry heading.  Browse both for the most appropriate profile.

What happened to your Canadian Industry Profiles?

Due to a change in Statistics Canada policy we are no longer able to provide our Canadian Industry Profiles.  If you require data that was included in those profiles (e.g. business counts by employee-size groupings) please e-mail us at contact@gdsourcing.com and we will provide you with data options.
